I am sure it works. I have never done this, but for the last month or so, i have been doing this (with the market so dead, there was nothing else to do in Feb). And it works. But while I'm tracking AMZN, BCST etc for a point or two, I miss out on a lot of other stocks which have zoomed since and also, I have to do with stop losses on my other positions, and have been stopped out only to see the stock climb back (CNET today). And I find that the opportunity costs of these gains are enormous for me....but yes, I am trying to cover my DELL losses and have ALMOST succeeded.....only a few thousand more to go...
