Christine,
I read up a little and there were established trade routes well before Jesus's birth. The silk trade was very important and at times silk was worth it's weight in gold. I remember pepper was at one time also.

I don't think your theory that Jesus studied Buddhism is sound though. Many inspired people have come up with sayings to live by that are strikingly similar to the Buddha and his priests. There is no monopoly on good ideas. How many ways are there to be good? They have all been thought of so any similarity between what Jesus said and what Buddhist priests said is no proof that Jesus studied Buddhism. The existence of the trade routes, gaps in Jesus's life history, and similarities in outlook are not proof. It's widely believed that Jesus never left the region He was born in except maybe when He fled to Egypt with His family to escape Herod.
