The second time, they poked about seven holes in two vertical lines about an inch to either side, and inserted wires under the flesh, and brought them out the front into orange plastic hose tubes and cinched it all up. So it looked like I had a row of 2" long firecrackers stuck horizontally to my ab, with wires coming out their ends, disappearing into holes in my flesh. It really, really, hurt, what with the cinching. I was taking morphine for two weeks and it still hurt good.
My Dad comes into the sunroom where I'm sitting, up for a visit, and I'm not wearing a shirt, and he looks at it kind of aghast, and says (why do people say this?), "Does it hurt?"
I answered, without thinking, "It hurts when I laugh."
Then when I realized what I said, I had like a cosmic fit of it, that really hurt. |
