To all: I have read all the replies here and still don't understand ADSL. Will there be one ADSL chip or box for each telephone line? What is on the other side of the ADSL equipment? Is there concern for shared bandwidth there like cable? Is it always the telephone company's ADSL equipment and why would they put this equipment on your line if you are using an internet service provider other then the telephone company? Is ADSL just for internet connections?
Recently there has been some news about interoperability of ADSL equipment. Does this mean all the ADSL companies are on the same footing and the telephone companies can choose any ADSL equipment and it will work with the others? The best ADSL product will win???
Comments please,
Tom
