performance increase in v3-2000,

Our buddy Binky "don't call me 'Binky'" Dinkums, over at AGN, posted something of interest, regarding the V3:
Voodoo3 is starting to look better, thanks to some new drivers 3Dfx is working on that will speed up the already speedy card. I was told that with the new drivers, the 143MHz Voodoo3 2000 will outperform a set of Voodoo2 cards in SLI mode. Kind of makes you wonder how fast the 3500 will be ehh?
Yep, after reading that, decided to bite the bullet and shell out the $250 to pre-order a 3500. Gotta love those driver tweaks =). And I'm pretty sure the OEMs are loving it too =).
On another note, dropped by the arcade today and saw a couple of arcade games and out of the 15 odd new simulation games, probably a 1/4 them were using 3Dfx technology (from atari and midway)... they weren't too hard to pick out... had the familiar 3Dfx voodoo2 "look" and had lots of people standing in line to play (when did the average price to play a new game rise to a buck?).
Unfortunately, the boxes didn't have 3Dfx anywhere on them. I consider that a crime. Jason are you reading this? A crime I tell you. All you need is a little sign that says "powered by 3Dfx technology," and bam, you got 3Dfx plastered all over the arcades... instant advertising. If those kids were willing to pay a buck to play the game they're probably willing to shell out $250 to get the same technology in their computers! |
