both VIGN & ALLR make excellent web software products, story server by vignette and cold fusion by the allaire brothers ... staying ahead of the pack in software is a difficult proposition as the big firms (ibm, microsoft, etc) want to own the software and service behind it software is a tough business to me and the multiples of revenue tend to be lower than more service based, outsourced internet companies compare doubleclick to netgravity as one example
