DELL TO SELL LINUX-BASED PC SERVER PACKAGE IN JAPAN TOKYO, Mar 12, 1999 (Asia Pulse via COMTEX) -- Dell Computer KK will release a Linux-based PC server package, company officials said. The company hopes the addition of the Linux-compatible system will help it expand its customer base. Linux, a freeware operating system, has been gaining popularity around the world as an alternative to Windows operating systems. Dell's package will include the company's high-performance PC server, Power Edge 1300, the Turbo Linux Server Japanese Version 1.0 operating system and the Oracle8 Workgroup Server for Linux Release 8.0.5 database management software. The package will be added to the DellWare service menu, which lets customers buy Dell hardware and other companies' software as a package. The price for the Linux system has yet to be fixed.
