Hello Mr. Cummings:
The diaper area does not bleach, tan, etc. which does not preclude using the device. They are both doing transcutaneous reflectance spectroscopy, which for $3K for the instrument, they should be able to do much better than the limited studies indicate. One of the neatest features of neonates is the smallness of their body parts. I would think a transmission mode would be superior. Or if they are fixated on reflectance, using a land would be appropriate (consider it a shield to the lighting effects). From what I am reading I think both companies missed the ball on the technology. Their algorithmic approach seems primitive, not elegant, as has been possible in the 90's. And elegance can work quite nicely. This application is relatively trivial compared to some of the proprietary technology under development elsewhere--none of which is targeting this particular niche to my knowledge. Frontal assault photometry has been around for decades. In my assessment of this technology, I feel they missed the potential sweet spot throughout their development efforts, meaning a seriously minded competitor could displace these firms, if these firms can demonstrate there is a market for such expensive instruments for this application. I continue to regard CCSI as desirable to short at present, if I can find shares.
Best regards,
m
