Plextor, Yamaha, & Ricoh are often the most suggested and I've heard many good things about Teac on the newsgroups. I have a Ricoh currently, but would get a Plextor if I had to do it over. I haven't had any kind of drive problems, or any coasters that weren't my own or some software's fault. With any of the above, you can't go wrong.

What kind of Ricoh do you have and what sort of problems? I assume you've visited arrakis-ttm.com ?
