PAL is about 625 lines of resolution as compared to NTSC (the North American standard) which is 550 lines of resolution. HDTV is 1200 lines of resolution. As a comparison, the best movie projectors can only deliver about 1100 lines of resolution. HDTV is so crisp that it looks real. Also the TV sets are rectangular, about twice as wide as they are high. This image gives the viewer the same impression as seeing a wide screen movie. It is so far superior to our present technology that it will be a must in every home. I can see ZE benefiting by making and selling the new sets and selling and licencing the technology for simultaneous broadcasting to the broadcasters. One point I wish to discuss in more detail with my technician friends who attended the trade show with me is whether conventional TV sets will need a special decoder to pick up the HDTV signals. If this is the case then it is another product ZE can manufacture and licence to competitors. I will post more info soon.
