Since very few read this link because I primarly use it as a file to store some information I want ready access to ... I thought I'd respond to this, since Cheeky Kid posted it.
Oil Industry OK for Y2K abcnews.go.com
<However, the API study found that embedded chips do not pose a significant problem for the industries," Ron Quiggins, director, Year 2000 Program, Shell Services and chairman of the API Year 2000 Task Force, said in a statement. "We're not finding the embedded chip failures that we thought we had."
LOL - Ron Quiggins was my lunch partner at a Process Control conference in Houston March '98. Notice he used the words "embedded chips" and not "embedded systems". He's totally accurate with THAT statement. He and I had a very interesting conversation about "embedded systems" assessment, remediation, and testing. Not very encouraging. Basically they can do assessment, but can't do testing and remediation while platforms and pipelines are operational. Too many safety hazards. I was told, "We could shut down the rigs, then the only thing we'd have to worry about is money."
