SEEC Launches E-Business Solutions
PR Newswire - March 12, 1999 07:14

PITTSBURGH, March 12 /PRNewswire/ -- SEEC Inc. (Nasdaq: SEEC) today announced two new solutions for Shaping e-Legacies into e-Business(TM). The solutions will help Fortune 1000 companies and other large organizations transform mainframe computer systems into flexible, Web-enabled systems providing seamless, real-time information access for customers, employees, investors and business partners. Leading industry research analysts confirm the growing demand for e-legacy solutions, as well as the unique value SEEC offers in this emerging market.

"Electronic commerce is revolutionizing the economy and challenging established retailers, banks and manufacturers to re-invent their information systems to support electronic business processes," said Ravi Koka, president and CEO of SEEC. "Since seventy percent of their business-critical information resides on mainframes, these companies' survival will depend on revitalizing traditional mainframe-based information systems to capitalize on the Web and other emerging technologies."

META Group, a leading IT analyst organization, estimates that more than 90 percent of legacy data will be accessible via the Internet by 2004. Said Carl Greiner, vice president and director of the Enterprise Data Center Strategies service of META Group: "Global supply chain requirements, electronic interchange, and the externalization of business computing will drive the renovation and revitalization of users' legacy application investments and necessitate ubiquitous Web-browser technologies for global business interaction."

To make this transition, organizations will require a new mix of human and technical resources that most traditional IT organizations do not have. To meet this need, SEEC introduced the SEEC Re-engineering Workbench(TM), expanded its professional services group, and today announced two new software solutions -- SEEC Application Enhancement Solution and SEEC Application Mosaic(TM). These tailored solutions will promote fast, efficient project completion for customers tackling each stage of e-legacy transformation:

-- Enhancement of existing systems for alignment with e-commerce strategies;

-- Migration and/or integration of legacy data and applications with the
Web or ERP (enterprise resource planning), CRM (customer relationship
management) and other application packages;

-- Transformation of host-based applications into highly flexible,
platform-independent e-business applications based on re-usable
software components.
"SEEC staked out a leadership role in the legacy transformation market in 1992, when we introduced the first PC-based process for mainframe maintenance and reengineering," said Koka. "Since then, our solutions have generated substantial cost savings and productivity gains for our customers. Today, the commercialization of the Web and maturation of PC technologies have changed legacy transformation from a business tactic to a central strategic objective. Our goal is to develop and deliver new technologies to help our customers shape legacy systems into true e-business systems."

SEEC intends to leverage its existing relationships with customers and leading global service providers like IBM Global Services, Unisys, Complete Business Solutions, and others, as part of a go-to-market strategy for e-business solutions.
