I would NOT BUT TPII. TPII strategy of converting mainfram COBOL code, IDMS/ISAM/VSAM data structure to C/C++, RDBMS is great BUT which organization would actually use the conversion kit? Major organization would rather put in the extra effort/resources and dollars to analyze and document the new system by going through a formal systems development life cycle to complete the conversion project. Quick conversions will only play havoc and require extra (and I mean a whole lot extra effort)with future maintenance needs. The only market that TPII could hope to have is in the database or code conversion utilities segment. A good question to ask the businesses that have just TPII conversion software is how maintainable is their current system? People often forget that maintenance of a system is a big issue.
