Z,

I thought I responded to your question <<I believe I was once told that GMR vs MR did not increase the need for TSA. Am I incorrect? >> but can't seem to find the posting here.

I saw Toko's response which is in part correct, but I think the driver for TSA is its controlled impedance characteristics which makes the interface between heads (whichever kind you use)and channel ICs more predictable and offers higher bandwidth.

GMR yields faster data rates off the media and in turn requires the higher bandwidth interface offered by TSA. This is important when you use the GMR heads in the high spindle speed (10K and higher) enterprise drives.

Regards,
LT
