TPI ANNOUNCES SOFTWARE FOR MIGRATION FROM IBM AS/400 TO MICROSOFT NT
Missassauga - January 23, 1997: Transformation Processing Inc.(NASDAQ OBB:TPII) has announced a Microsoft Windows NT and Microsoft SQL Server Version of its TRANSFORM/400 AS/400 Migration Tools. Users requiring migration from the IBM AS/400 platform can now consider an all Microsoft-based solution on any platform supported by the Windows NT operating system.
A battery of code translators, running on Windows NT, is used to convert the user's application source code into machine-independent code components. One hundred percent automatic conversion is achieved except in certain situations. In general terms, application software functions that were coded for a particular physical implementation require manual adjustment of programs. For example, bit manipulation of ebcdic codes requires adjustment after programs are translated into ASCII. Telecommunications, graphics and office automation functions are some of the other areas that require attention and may need redesign.
These code components are reassembled into the four modules of the TPI designed object request broker architecture: a User Interface Client module; an Application execution module with its dedicated Data Support module; and an Object Manager supplying OS/400-equivalent functionality. Implementation of this distributed processing architecture involves compilation of the translated code and linkage with TPI-supplied networking drivers. Data translators are used to convert the raw binary data from the AS/400, according to a data dictionary derived during the code translation phase, and to load it into a SQL Server database.
Transformation Processing Inc. is an information technology company that develops and markets software that enables companies worldwide to automatically migrate application programs and data from legacy systems to UNIX,NT and OS/2 open systems environment and database.
