I recently purchased some VTSS and have also been looking at AMCC. I understand that the VTSS chips are made using Gallium versus the Silicon which is what AMCC uses. I read that VTSS chips currently have a speed edge because of Gallium, but that it is more expensive to work with and silicon efficiency is catching up quickly. The CEO at AMCC contends everyone will use silicon eventually because of the economies of scale. I am hardly an engineer and am interested if anyone could shed more light on this issue of Galium Versus Silicon.
Thank you!
