Kenneth, Thnak you very much for the detailed post which has enabled me get a better picture of DELL's game plan. Being an amazon.com addict I do agree that familiarity has a monetory value when it comes to e-shopping and DELL may be able to extract a premium based on that. However, advertising based web sites are not bad at all in my experience and it may very well be that they will also gain in the familiarity field. For example, my informal survey indicates that more people know of onsale.com that dell.com. And the amazon experience has taught many other upstarts that losing money is considered by many to be a rational way of conducting business! So it may be a long fight (which DELL may very well win). -BGR.
