The Washington Post's Sunday advertising supplements were distributed today, Saturday. CompUSA's supplement contained a an inside, quarter-page ad for X2 modems ($199 for an internal).

I wonder if sales will be very large for any 56K modem -- as long as
a standard has not yet been agreed upon. A Catch-22 situation may
be developing: consumers will be reluctant to buy until they are
certain their ISP will support the 56K modem they buy. ISP's will
be reluctant to decide which 56K technology to support until consumer demand indicates the preferred technology. And both consumers and ISP's will be waiting for the U.S. ITU chapter to set an interim standard later this year.

I see, at least through mid-year, a very confused situation. My hunch: USRX and Rockwell may soon be talking privately on a compromise standard.
