[Daniel] Your question is and has been debated long and hard here and elsewhere, opinions are still expressed on both sides as to what if anything Aware will receive as revenue from the DSL-Lite technology, which is also known as G.Lite, ADSL Lite and G.992.2. However, nothing of any substance has been put forward to say Aware doesn't have legal claim to royalties or license revenue.

I myself am of the opinion the company would not be claiming patents that guarantee them some revenue from the use of G.992.2 unless there is legal ground to support them. In the Aware third quarter 1998, Oct. 15 conference call, the Aware CEO M. Tzannes makes that statement very clearly, you can listen to the recording at this link here: aware.com If in fact this wasn't the case...one would have to question why it hasn't been disputed by other companies using G.992.2.

The following is from the Aware Website:

"Aware pioneered the development of a variant of ADSL known as DSL-Lite or G.lite. DSL-Lite technology delivers data transmission speeds of up to 1.5 Mbps downstream and up to 512 kbps upstream. The significance of Aware's splitterless DSL-Lite technology, which is DMT based, is that it has been designed for easy, low-cost deployment and removes the need for a voice-data splitter at every user site. The elimination of the voice-data splitter solves a major deployment bottleneck, the telephone company truck-roll, thereby helping to speed the deployment of DSL services. DSL-Lite is the technology that will enable an integrated PC modem solution for high-speed Internet access over existing phone lines."

So to answer your question whether Centillum escapes any royalties or not...IMO, no they don't...they do pay some form of royalties, license fees or both. How much is probably dependent on the particular deal and is held confidential...so we are left to guess. DSL-Lite is what accounts for a major portion of Aware's value in the DSL arena...IMHO. Also I should note...no one has yet to produce any facts to dispute Aware's claim to splitterless DSL-Lite technology...they only bring forth conjecture. I welcome any facts or comments.
