They grow a lot of mangos up the coast, mostly for export to Japan. The Japs are insanely picky, they all have to be exactly the same size, no spots, etc. The rest end up getting sold off locally, and supply vastly exceeds demand, especially if you go up to the farms and buy from the hired help, who are usually willing to drop a few off the truck for very small compensation.

When I lived in Mindanao I had a durian tree in the yard, which was not so much fun. Also a mangosteen, which is still one of my favorite tropical fruits.

I miss peaches, plums, and apples, though. I come from apple country, and the ones they sell here, mostly imported from china, hardly deserve to be called apples.
