Texas Instruments Launches the TMS320C6711 Low-Cost Floating-Point DSP
TI's new 'C6711 provides customers with greater processing demands, a
low-cost entry to the industry's leading high-performance DSP platform. The'C6711 operates at 100-MHz and delivers 600 MFLOPS. A 150 Mhz version is also available and delivers 900 MFOPS. The 'C6711 is identical in pinout and on-chip peripherals to TI's 'C6211 fixed-point DSP and the floating-point code of the 'C67x family is a superset of the 'C62x family's fixed-point code. Pin- and code-compatibility gives developers the option of migrating their floating-point designs to fixed-point devices for greater cost reduction in future high-volume products.

Spectrum Selected As Preferred 'C6x Vendor At U.S. Department Of Defense
The U.S. Department of Defense has chosen Spectrum to supply 'C6x-based DSP products and digital radio modules for several contracts under one significant, ongoing program. The U.S. Department of Defense undertook a market survey and technical analysis of several companies to select a vendor and a standard 'C6x platform. Spectrum's Monaco VME system solution, based on the 'C6201 chip, was chosen as the standard platform. Spectrum estimates the total revenue potential for this program over the next two years at US$ 8 million.
