John, I hate winter.I often wonder why my parents moved from the moderate climate of France to the cold & snow of Canada. However, I deal with it in typical yuppie fashion. I bought a Lexus 470 4x4 a month ago.

I will try and answer some of your questions on Monday since my reports are all at the office.

I believe the market has built in such negative expectations for Q1 that we can expect the market to move up once March options expiration is over.

DELL, for one, should have a good quarter since the January period is excluded. We'll probably hear DELL management make some comments soon but I forget when they're having their analyst meeting. I suspect their unit volume and share will increase dramatically in this quarter but am not sure how much erosion DELL will experience in the ASP. In my business model I've forecasted a 15% unit increase and a 2% ASP decline for a net gain of 13% over Q4. This is much higher than the mid single digits number that was quoted by DELL but I'm inclined to believe that theirs was an extremely conservative estimate. In fact, I believe the mid single digits number reflects only pipeline fill.

I spoke to DELL IR on Friday about getting a transcript of Q4's conference call but that isn't available. IR did quote from the CC and stated that going into Q1 DELL had the largest pipeline fill they've ever had in this period. In US large accounts alone this pipeline fill amounted to $100 million.

I don't know when the IBM cross licensing deal will kick in but I'll speak to IR on Monday.

Regards, Gabriel
