THIS IS THE STORY THAT SHOWS HOW SMART MICROSOFT'S CURRENT EXECUTIVE ARE!!! (I had to capitalize it). I did not quite understand the earlier bloomberg stories.

The new consumer division includes---Windows and MSN!!!!
They put their "monopoly" product along with MSN, which was rumored to a spin off. This ensures that Windows2000 is protected from any future anti-trust action. If they had to split up(or wanted to)--MSN and Windows98 can go away together. They ensured that NT or Windows2000 was kept in a separate division --ie in their core business for the future. Did not want it lumped in with Windows98. The strategy behind the restructuring may have been to keep these two operating systems apart. Furthermore, if the case gets to the supreme court---MSFT may well be in a position to voluntarily spin off Windows. Remember we were hearing how Win98 would eventually be replaced by Windows2000. The latest I read was that they plan to keep the two separate ie their programming codes(maybe a programmer can help me out here)

Here are portions of the story along with the link to the whole seattletimes story:

The company hasn't changed the decision Ballmer made two months ago to restructure itself around four divisions focused on its core customers:

Consumers, which includes its Windows operating system and online business.

Enterprise, which includes its more powerful Windows NT operating system as well as its server products.

Knowledge workers, primarily its applications business.

Developers, which includes improving and expanding relationships with programmers.
