fooladlot: Yes, we are in the grip of "CPQ, the PC manufacturer, versus DELL" perceptions. When earnings beat estimates the analysts and commentators will call "foul" because maybe as much as 50% of the revenues will be from high margin servers, storage, networking, high-end appliances and consulting services. All the DELLHEADS will say that CPQ has cooked the books.

It will take them some time for them to get a grip of the business plan. It is COMPAQ's responsibility to hammer this home. If you remember a year or so ago, IBM made the "perception breakthrough" when it produced growth mainly through services, even while its PC and components business was sluggish. Its share price has not looked back since then.
