A friend gave me this report from the Morgan Stanley semiconductor conference last week:

Everyone was very upbeat about '99, believing the semiconductor industry is at the beginning of another strong upcycle. Prices are firming, and inventories at the companies, and in the channel are very low.

In just the last 90 days, the fab utilization rate at TSMC has gone from last year's average of 74% to a Q1 average of 85% - with 0.35 and 0.25 micron at almost 100%.
