Ole 49er: You never miss a beat. Your incisive addendum to my comments regarding the Ft Knox training film are duly noted. Mobilization exercises in the Army and NatGuard appear to be geared towards a "civilian scenario". Who knows, maybe we'll see a new Army recruitment ad - a revival of the advertisement to "Put a Tiger in Your Tank."
I found this film mildly interesting because the creators only touched upon the historical context of the 30's, a period which spawned the need for a well fortified gold vault. It was during this time when large-scale disruptions, civil riots and the like, broke out. The combination of troop mobilizations, tank team training, the 1930's, secrecy about gold, nuclear terrorism, surveillance and emergency response preparedness made this an intriguing film from a contemporary perspective.
Y2K may be just a dress rehearsal for the large scale, chronic disruptions which may ensue should a deflation occur. Already, in our country's back yard, in Ecuador, tanks are rolling to prevent riots and looting in an economy collapsed.
