OK so we agree to disagree. I do agree that gradual would be better, but with oil and gas at an all time inflation adjusted low I dont see the trauma you do. Where were we a couple years ago when oil was just over 20. No big problems. Sure the airlines tank or raise their already usurus(sp?) fares, and inflation goes to 3.5 instead of 1, but no havoc. And yes I'm old enough to remember the 70's (and the 60s and the 50's and even most of the 40's).((:

As an aside, can you immagine those Ford planners sitting around and wondering what the hell to do with those 19 foot 10mpg tanks they just came out with if gas does pop 30 cents this year.
