Robert,

The PC133 SDRAM's in my opinion is extremly bad news for Rambus, and
also for Intel in the end. Let me list several reasons why.

1. PC133 SDRAM's for most of the DRAM produces is just a faster
version of the current PC100 chips, the process can be modified
very easy, and currently most of the DRAM producers are already
producing this speed grade.
2. None of the DRAM producers want to pay a royalty to Rambus to
produce a part that will much more expensive to produce.
3. The boxmakers know that to continue to sell to the mass market that
they have to check the price of the PC low, the higher cost of the
rambus DRAM's will push this price up.
4. AMD in January sold more processors into the retail market than
Intel, so Intel does not have the market clout to force this on the
boxmakers, and AMD/National will use Intels Rambus commitment to
take additional market share from Intel.
5. The PC133 SDRAM is a leadin to a PC133 DDRAM, so in essence by
staying with a well understood SDRAM type memory the boxmakers
will be able to deliver incremental performance gains to the
mass retail customer with no additional cost, this model is one
that in the past has worked well.

There probally more reasons, but its late and need to go to bed..
