Aitch; COMPAQ never said that the DEC merger would be immediately accretive. It consistently said that it would begin to be accretive before the end of the 4th quarter, 1998. It was.
It never simply added on DEC's revenues to its own. It intergrated two companies, phased out some of DEC's and CPQ product lines, instigated efficiencies and downsized the work-force. In the process of the merger, CPQ lost some of the DEC business. But it is also on path to increase revenues from some of the former DEC assets, such as AV.
As you correctly state, CPQ never said it would achieve $50 billion revenues in 1998 or 1999, it said, 2000. 5fer "confirmed" last week in Australia, that that target is well within reach, and that the company is comfortable with analysts revenue estimates for this year. |
