Buffett has written often on the miracles of compound growth and the hesitancy to take needless profits on which taxes must be paid.

For him to order the Gen Re equity liquidation with the resultant tax liability, and then not buy something else, should leave reasonable persons with some questions.

OTOH, Buffett isn't always right. Just often enough to be considered the greatest investor of our time.<g>
