Re: Cable vs. DSL

It's the same here in South Florida. BellSouth is moving at a snail's pace rolling out crippled and overpriced DSL in selected areas. Meanwhile, I've been using Adelphia's (ADLAC) cable modem service since August 1997 and they are madly trenching fiber to upgrade the service all around here.

As far as I can tell the cable companies will achieve near 100% penetration in their service territories before most of the telcos are finished with their toe-in-the-water "pilot" DSL programs. And as far as pricing goes there is simply no comparison--cable wins by a mile. My guess is that DSL will be successful only in areas where cable isn't present.
