Brazil Will be the Stage for the World's Second Largest Telecommunications Fair
The Brazilian Telecommunications Market is in the Center of Attention of Major
Domestic and Foreign Investors, Contemplating the Possibility of Major Business Transactions
SAO PAOLO, Brazil, March 13 /PRNewswire/ -- TELEXPO'99, the Ninth Edition of the International Fair and Congress in Telecommunications, Networks and Corporate Internet, will be held at the Expo Center Norte, in Sao Paulo, Brazil, on March 23, 24, 25 and 26, 1999. The event has already conquered the world's second place, surpassed only by the North American Supercomm. This year, the fair achieved an increase of 20% compared to last year, in terms of physical space, which will be occupied by more than 400 companies of the five continents, in an area of 46 thousand square meters. Advanstar Brasil, promoter and organizer of the event, is anticipating a visitation of around 68 thousand professionals and executives in the sector. Besides the traditional pavilions which comprise the Center Norte exposition complex, three new ones will be assembled to meet the demands for the participation of foreign companies. At the Congress, which will be held simultaneously with more than 150 activities, 2 thousand participants are expected to attend.
The scenario could not be more promising for domestic and imported equipment suppliers. Last year's business transactions totaled US$4.5 billion and the expectation is for a growth of around 20% a year for the next five years, according to projections of the Associacao Brasileira da Industria Eletro-eletronica (Abinee) (Brazilian Association of the Electric-Electronic Industry).
In the services sector, the potential for an annual average growth is projected to be around 25% for the next five years. In absolute numbers, they may oscillate between US$25 billion and US$30 billion in the same period. This includes not only the operators' announced plans regarding fixed and cellular telephony and broadcast networks, but also services offered by Internet providers, developers of outside networks, software suppliers and services providers in the consulting sector and others.
TELEXPO'99 will be a state of the art showcase in telecommunications. Among the underlined trends are, the usage of IP (Internet Protocol) on a corporate level, Frame Relay, Advanced Call Centers, Digital Public Networks, Optical Fiber in Public Networks Backbones, etc. Major companies with domestic distribution networks are inclined to invest in communication infrastructure, i.e., to enhance the band for high-speed transmissions. The offering of data communication services should increase, especially in the corporate segment, as well as voice communication. Below are some of the products and services that should be emphasized at the exposition.
NETWORK PERFORMANCE
CrossKeys Systems, a Canadian based company, which supplies software solutions for telecommunications operators, is introducing a network performance analysis system, called CrossKeys Resolve N/, and also the CrossKeys Altus, to monitor the network's performance and traffic, and the CrossKeys Resolve S/, to analyze services. The Resolve line is comprised of an integrated applications group to monitor the performance in services and networks and has the support for IP.
FOR MULTI-SERVERS
The 4.0 Kea version to integrate heterogeneous environments is a set produced by Attachmate. It will be exhibited at the TELEXPO. Besides enabling the operation of Unix applications from multiple Windows NT stations, the system also combines a number of resources. The software is indicated for corporations employing multi-server networks, where technologies such as Digital, Unix, IBM and Microsoft are used.
INTEGRATED SOLUTIONS
Advanced solutions comprising voice, data and video through the Internet, will be at booth of Cisco Brasil. Cisco 2600,00, a multi-service distinguished solution, which integrates voice, data and video, allowing for new applications and services. Series 3600 is a multifunctional platform, which combines dialing access, routing and services from LAN to LAN. In their booth, partners will be exhibiting voice over Frame Relay solutions, such as Compugraf, and voice over IP through radio, such as Bosch.
MULTI-SERVICE NETWORKS
Newbridge Networks will be exhibiting ATM technology-based solutions for multi-service networks. ATM Multiservice-Main StreetXpress 36170 switch and MainStreetXpress 48020 management system, the company's distinguished products, provides confidence to the network of multi-technologies concentration and management of transport for several access options, and the company will be demonstrating the benefits of their solutions.
CONVERGENCE OF MEANS
3Com's objective at the TELEXPO is to exhibit new solutions in voice, data and video convergence, which allows for the reduction in cost and increase the availability of infrastructure for information networks for companies and operators. The distinguished SuperStack II PBX 1000 switch, which integrates PABX functions and data switch in a single equipment, besides the complete simulation of a convergent network.
FAST ACTIVATION
RAD Data Communications will emphasize an access solution -- (MAP) Multiservice Access Platform - which allows to develop or to activate an operator or an Internet Service Provider in a short period of time with lower costs. With it, any network TDM-type (Time Division Multiplexor) is able to carry voice, fax, data, video conferencing and PABX interlinked, Frame Relay-ready for services providers.
BEST PERFORMANCE
To multiply the working capacity of users in local networks, Trellis is releasing the new eight-door switches RJ 45 for PC networks. It may interlink from 10 Mbps to 100 Mbps networks, besides delivering the best performance with the possibility of segmenting medium and large networks into working groups. PMCIA dual card is another innovation for notebooks, which comprises the functions of fax-modem with 56 Kbps speed and 10/100 Mbps network boards, delivering economy and the best usage of the equipment.
REMOTE ACCESS
Several products will stand out at the Cabletron Systems's booth. Dedicated to supplying networking solutions, the company will exhibit the new WAN modules for the SmartSwitch Router 8000 family, as well as the three new products of the SmartSwitch Router 200 family, used for remote access applications; SmartSwitch Router 250, an ADSL Router, that offers Internet or Intranet connections at speeds 200 times higher than conventional ones; SmartSwitch Router 245, Ethernet Router for Internet connection for small local networks or working groups; and SmartSwitch Router 265, which comprises all the functions of other models and offers higher speed connections through modem cable.
NO-FAULT SERVERS
Sun Microsystems just created their Network Systems Division, is announcing the release of products allowing for the development of integrated, reliable and high performance applications, comprising critical data, voice and video transmissions. One of the distinguished products is the non-fault server Netra ft 1800, for critical applications in intelligent networks, including emergency systems and calling cards authentication. It comprises Solaris, an operational environment, and assures almost 100% availability, which means less than five minutes a year in downtime, planned or otherwise. Other releases include Netra st A1000/D1000 storage systems, as well as services programs to partnerships.
DIGITAL MODEMS
Eicon Technology participates at the TELEXPO with digital Internet access solutions. Among them, Diva Lan ISDN modem, ideal for micro and small companies wanting to increase connection speed with the world network, and at the same time, to implement an inexpensive and easy to install solution. The main characteristic is in versatility, i.e., it is ready to be interlinked with several PCs, allowing up to 50 users on the same board. Another new product is Diva Mobile V.90. It is a PC card that offers digital and analog access in a single equipment. It reaches 56 Kbps in conventional lines and 128 Kbps with the ISDN technology.
ATM SWITCH
Several new high performance products for communication networks were reserved for the TELEXPO'99 by Fore Systems, a company working with high performance products based on ATM technology. Among the main releases is the Ethernet/ATM - ESX-2450 switch, with high density, scaleable and flexible, which offers performance not only at the backbone, but at the LAN's edge as well. Other products with similar protuberance are: ASX-1200 switch; new functions for the management software of Floreview networks, new interfaces for ASX-4000 WDM technology switch; as well as some applications such as video on demand, video broadcasting, video conferencing, voice over ATM and data.
LEADING EDGE TECHNOLOGY
To supply solutions with leading edge technology for the implementation of infrastructures in local networks (LANs) and long distance networks (WANs), for corporate and public environments, are the tools that Setal Telecom supplies, comprising from engineering projects up to construction sites and implementation of services. Among the applications will be: voice over IP, large capacity access servers, communication and information packages, etc.
MULTI PROTOCOL ROUTER
An expandable router with eight synchronized outlets, which may be configured in different speeds, will be exhibited by Cyclades, a product of the PR 3000 family of medium sized multi-protocol routers, designed from low to mid range applications. Another one is the PR 3008, developed to meet Internet Providers needs.
VOICE OVER IP
There are many new products that Siemens Division IC - Information and Communication has prepared for TELEXPO'99 visitors. The company will exhibit HicomXpress, communication of voice over IP platform, which allows to carry voice over data network; ProCenter, a Call Center solution, with flexible routing among the several regions in the country; and a WLL application with the installation of a central DECT link connected to a main EWSD telephone exchange, among other innovations. An unpublished solution: Report Express, for outsourcing service to manage and issue reports on telephony charges through the Internet.
VIDEO CONFERENCING ON IP
At the booth of Prolan Solucoes Integradas, the visitor will be able to get acquainted with a technology package with the latest releases of major world developers. Thus, besides exhibiting solutions involving multimedia traffic, the company wants to focus on the practical usage of concepts, such as voice over IP and TV broadcasting in Broadcasting with IP. Among the products in display are Picture Tel's NetConference, which involves software and hardware for video conferencing traffic in IP network environments, at the implementation of intranet and in VPN-type sections, also operating with local networks and on RDSI.
INTERNET VIA SATELLITE
Impact Brasil participates in the fair with new Internet products and a new service: Conexia. For the Internet, the company is exhibiting Clever Cast, Philips' platform of hardware and software sending information over IP with MPEG-2/DVB, an open compression standard. This system allows Impsat to offer high-speed services to corporations and Internet providers. Conexia applies to health insurance operators and aims at the automation of all medical transactions.
SAFETY ON THE WEB
A complete line of products for e-commerce, through corporate networks or through the Internet will be the focus of Uniao Digital, a distributor of corporate communication solutions. The company will exhibit no-fault data storage solutions, terabit level capable. One of the featured products is Checkpoint's Firewall-1, which allows for safety on the Internet and is essential on the implementation of Intranets and on Web browsing for commercial purposes. It has several levels of safety and among its distinguished characteristics are the performance and support to Windows NT or Unix.
INTEGRATION IN THE INTERNET
Due to the growing inter-relations with a call centers and Internet, Tantech, a company specialized on the development and integration of voice, fax, messaging and e-mail systems for the corporate market, will display DiaVoxT and VPNet. Aimed at call centers, DiaVoxT is a multifunctional system, fully integrated with Internet, which simultaneously sends audible response (URA), fax on demand, automatic dialing, digital recording and Screen Pop. Another new product is the VPNet, a private virtual network application to be used by Internet, integrating companies with their commercial partners, replacing EDI, with cost reduction.

With several lines of products, Ethernet switches, multiplexing equipment, optical, digital and HDSL modems, Parks reaffirms its position of multimedia solutions provider and emphasizes the Duolink line at the TELEXPO'99. This equipment allows direct and permanent connection with the Internet around the clock, without wasting any time with dialing, besides data, voice and video traffic 18 times faster than the current 56 Kbps modems. With the access system always on, e-mail messages, for example, arrive automatically in direct line, without prejudice for the simultaneous voice traffic by telephone.
WEB TO HOST
A powerful Web to Host solution -- the OC://WebConnect PRO V4.1 -- is the distinguished product from Masterway. This solution has the capacity of automatically rejuvenating the user's interface in real time and enhancing performance, through the applet caching. The host's fast access via browser releases the need of programming or loss of performance, providing real time access to existing applications to the user, in an intuitive and friendly manner.
INTERNET AND ETHERNET
Reltec will exhibit in its booth six products for the telecommunications market: cabinets, Internet high speed access solutions, Ethernet, high-speed digital carrier systems for power and automatic line testing. In its line of activities the company delivers from marketing cycles to technical assistance to its manufactured or imported products.
ADSL MODEM FOR INTERNET
The spread of services through ADSL modem, now allowed by Anatel (previous legislation prohibited telecommunication companies to provide access to the Internet) will draw everybody's attention to Digitel at the fair, with demonstrations of the Zipoomm equipment, which will be released with a complete solution for the access to the operator's data network, interlinked directly to the Internet backbone, thus facilitating surfing through the Internet.
SYSTEMS INTEGRATION
Proton guides its participation on the release of a new strategy on its performance as telecommunications systems integrator. The company is adding information technology activities to its corporate network solutions, including engineering services, implementation, management, operation and maintenance. To do that, Promon has three operational units: integrated networks, management and information systems. The company plans to act as an advisor from choosing technologies to the implementation of programs applications.
