Before I Cancel DirecPC and get ADSL

I will be getting a new Win'98 computer and this upgrade next month and will report here if I actually can see any real difference in the performance and stability in the DirecPC ISP performance. I will remain skeptical until i see a sustainable period of better performance. Huges always does great work right after an upgrade when the reviewers are scrutinizing them, and people are buying Dishes. It's months later when the focus on them has move away that they get careless with system performance. Consider how this year more and more places will have ADSL and CableModems, DirecPC should have done this enhancement a year ago. I doubt they are expanding to accomodate growth, but rather the heat of competition. Since I will using a brand new computer, their latest hard/software use their ISP, and have a great signal strength of 123, there will be no excuse left for their system not to scream.

The timing is funny as they just got reamed by the FCC for illegal broadcasting practices on their DirecTV system. I guess their PR department told them to get something some maturely competative news out in the presses other than cheap illegal practices to gain customers. The timeframe of the illegal broadcasting recall is actually the same as this supposed sytem upgrade. I wonder if they have to tweek the Satellites anyway, and figured they'd kill two birds with one stone. I can only hope their efforts will mean more than PR smoke and mirrors.

It continues to amaze me that DirecPC and DirecTV don't do better service bundling deals on their DUO product. They are giving away dishes and installation on competative systems in my area, yet they continue to charge hundreds of dollars for dishes and installation. If the Direct marketing people ever read this, you should reward DUO customers just like you do the TV customers. I don't blame you for handeling DirecPC customers at a premium as there is more overhead.
