RE---More on PC-to-telephone connections. Sam, a few years ago this idea of using the Net to bypass regular long-distance charges was being hyped/pushed by some companies.

There was some penny stock (was it Camelot or something?) that received an investment by either the Bass brothers or some other financial-investor family). The stock went from a few cents to several dollars, then fell back. The columnist on CNBC that was fired/dropped, Dan Dorfman, mentioned the company several times. The company was supposed to have a software program that would let you talk over the Internet, thus avoiding long distance charges.

Quarterdeck also had a similar software program. (But QDEK was recently bought out at 50 cents a share, I think.)

There were other companies that were set up as low-cost alternatives to paying international rates charged by telephone companies.

Maybe this is an idea whose time has come again. Or maybe it never went away. Whatever.

I wouldn't mind avoiding long distance charges. Heck, I wouldn't mind avoiding intra-state charges and what are called local-plus charges.

Acutally, it costs me almost as much to call any area 15 or 20 miles away from me as it does to call 3000 miles away (coast-to-coast).

Regards,

Larry
