BT and its European partners have started running live customer traffic over their 45,000km pan-European fibre optic network announced in early February. The network links the national networks of seven European operators - in the UK (BT), France (Cegetel/Telecom Developpement), Germany (VIAG Interkom), Italy (Albacom), Netherlands (Telfort), Switzerland (sunrise) and Belgium (BT Belgium). Phase two of the network roll-out will cover Ireland, Spain and Scandinavia while phase three will extend to Southern and Eastern Europe.
