Evening group,
I was just surfing over the other discussion threads (I do that to keep myself up todate on what is going on, LOL), and I came across Kris/H. Prescott's most recent comments. He was responding to someone saying that in their opinion, the European office will be a BIG Step forward for the company.
By the way, I am not fixated on Kris, I am only posting his comments as I want all our SI readers to hear both sides of this issue regarding Europe.
Here is his response.
Just out of curiosity. How many households in Europe do you think have computers? Depending upon which part of Europe your talking about, PC's are still considered a luxury item. For many families, a colour TV is a major step up. You talk as if Europe is entirely on the same wavelength as North American when it comes to the Internet and home computers. Have you ever been to Europe? Sincerely doubt it, so I would strongly suggest you stop relying on corporate PR's for your defence of this stock and the "European Connection" The company announced a long time ago its intention to expand across the Atlantic and the share price didn't move greatly. Do you think a lousy website and an office is going to make a HUGE difference? LOL
It's comments like these that prove you have no idea what your talking about and that all your BS is based on what you'd like to see happen versus what is happening or will happen based on the facts as we know them.
Here is my response. Re: Europe by: One_Crazy_Canuk 1158 of 1158
Evening Kris!
I haven't spoken to you in awhile. I am the guy that calls himself "Crazy Canuk" on SI. I am sure that you will recall some of our other chats as I do. I haven't posted too much lately as I'm doing some DD that is taking up a good chunk of my time. But I couldn't let your last comment about Europe pass without a response.
In response to your question about ever visiting Europe -actually I have been to Europe three times. One of the interesting things that I became aware of is that some of the countries in Europe have a population that is extremely computer literate. These countries are producing some of the finest computer minds in the world. I can rattle off a number of examples if you want, but one should suffice - T. Linux!
Now, I have to say that you are correct in that many homes in Europe still do not have a computer. They do however Televisions! Now remember that one of Bid.Com's new partners is developing TV based interactive auctions using Bid.Com's technology. This partner has a management team with a proven track record of success I might add. It is their intention to have celebrity hosts to run the auctions. Now take the French people for example - (did you know that they are absolutely crazy about Jerry Lewis) - if someone like him (or anyone else who is popular in that country for that matter) was the celebrity host for an interactive auction program in France, then I would say that it wouldn't matter how many P.C.'s they had. This would go over pretty darn well I would think.
Another thing I would like to remind you is that one of the revenue streams that Bid.Com is focusing on is the Business to Business market. Last time I checked, most of the businesses in Europe had computers. If you want to downplay this potential, just look at the stunning success of Vertical Net (VERT) in the past few weeks. Their focus is on Business to Business. B-B is only one of the revenue streams that Bid.Com is focusing on.
So in summary, you may downplay the European office opening, however I don't! I think that when they announce this - even if they aren't the first out of the blocks to do it, the stock will take a huge move forward.
Now as I mentioned, I am still attempting to get some more information through some DD, and I will post it when I can. In the mean time, I will also post some of the other reasons why I am long on this stock. However, I can't today.
Take care, and good night!
