Japan MITI says to support Nissan business reforms

TOKYO, March 15 (Reuters) - Japan's top trade and industry bureaucrat Osamu
Watanabe said on Monday the government will strongly support business reform efforts by
Nissan Motor Co .

Watanabe, vice minister of international trade and industry, told a regular news conference
he understood that senior executives of the Japanese automaker and Renault SA had held
''friendly talks'' over the weekend.

Japanese business daily Nihon Keizai Shimbun quoted Nissan President Yoshikazu Hanawa as saying the two companies had
reached an outline agreement on a tie-up but that the amount and ratio of a capital tie-up had not been set.

Renault officials were unavailable and a Nissan spokesman said he could not immediately comment on the report.
