mohan..."more industry developments.......perhaps significant???"

in a novelty for the computer industry the international union of operating engineers is trying to organize workers at gateway hampton va. manufacturing facility.....talks over the past month have hit on issues like shift scheduling, wage increases and overtime. gateway says the union isn't in the best interest of the company or its employees.
gateway said it had good relations with workers before the activity began.

this is significant, because it further proves the dell manufacturing "culture" is not easily copied......a pony tailed ceo, can't move from the pastures to a industrial labor surplus area and expect the employees to embrace his home spun culture....attempts to unionize mean a certain portion of the workeres disgruntled...not good for productivity and quality ...

should put minds at ease of those who are concerned that dell is "giving away the store" to ibm by sharing bto process....a concept can be shared, but not implemented in an environment that is used to a lack of "culture".....any comments? ed a.
