ComedyNet Signs Scott Thompson to Create & Star In First-Ever Video Streaming Internet 26-Episode Series
NEW YORK, March 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Actor/comedian Scott Thompson has signed an agreement with American Interactive Media (OTC Bulletin Board: AIME - news), the parent company of ComedyNet, to create and star in the first-ever made-for-the-Internet, video-streaming comedy series. ''Scottland'' will be comprised of twenty-six ten-minute episodes and will run weekly on ComedyNet (www.comedynet.com), according to Mark Graff, president and CEO. ComedyNet operates a twenty-four hour basis delivering comedic performances from the best comedians in America today.

Thompson has been a regular on the HBO hit series ''The Larry Sanders Show'' and is one of the founding members of the hit Canadian comedy sketch group ''The Kids in the Hall.'' The series grew out of the Internet site (www.scottland.com) Thompson created with his brother, cousin and their company Origo.com in 1995. The weekly show will take place in the virtual country of Scottland and feature outlandish story lines such as Francesca Fiori's pilot to overthrow Prime Minister Buddy Cole.

Buddy and Francesca will battle wits and foot fetishes while the Scottland ''netizens'' look on and at times interact. All of the major characters will by played by Scott Thompson. Many of the stars Scott has worked with from ''The Larry Sanders Show'' and ''Kids in the Hall'' will be making guest appearances.

The series will be accessed through ComedyNet and www.Scottland.com. Viewers will be asked to register as netizens of Scottland and to take on personas from that world. They then will be able to vote and participate in Scottland's political and social environments.

''Scott Thompson is a true visionary - creating a fantastical, sci-fi story that sends reminiscent whiffs of an adult ''HMR Puffenstuff'' and ''PeeWee's Playhouse.'' I have no doubt that it will be a cult favorite on the Internet and beyond. This is the type of talent that ComedyNet brings to the forefront of its programming,'' said Victoria Johnson, general manager of ComedyNet.

''Scottland will begin production in May of 1999 at the AIME studio in New York City. Fellow Canadian actress/writer Deborah Theaker, best known as Casey Edison in the quirky sitcom ''Maniac Mansion,'' will co-write the series with Thompson. She will also be a regular on the weekly show.

''Launching a series on ComedyNet is a tremendous opportunity for me because of the creative freedom allowed on the Internet. The site is wonderful, but now on ComedyNet we can expand way beyond our text-based medium. It won't be long before my dream of combining live, state-of-the-art, action comedy and puppetry into one show will be a reality,'' said Thompson.

ComedyNet launched in May 1998 to rave notices from the industry and consumers. During its first nine months of operations it has already won the Humor Indies ''Three Star Salute'' award; the ''SAV Award'' from Audio Visual Daily News for the top streaming audio/video comedy site; ''Best of the Planet'' award; the ''Top 100 Websearchers Award;'' and was chosen as one of the top three humor sites in Netguide.com's ''The Best of 1998.'' Most recently, it was nominated as the ''Most Entertaining Site'' for a 1999 Real Networks ''Streamers Award.'' In the second quarter of 1999, ComedyNet will become the first internet-based network to migrate to digital cable tiers.
