Not common, but a good idea, since most doctors seem to be paying little attention to what stuff they're giving you and what it is doing.
They're taking me off Relafen today, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory and pain killer, because I have to be off it two weeks prior to surgery. They know I'm going to start to hurt pretty bad, so they have offered me pain drugs to get through LA. It gets bad enough I can't walk.
I really disliked hydroco ~ it screwed with my head, believe it or not. No one looks like they've ever heard that before. They basically don't believe me. But I've taken a lot of pain killers in my life, and that's never happened before. They act like it's impossible, because it's just A and B, which is tylenol and I forget.
Nurse said, "What would you rather have?" Well, you know me, I didn't have any idea. But not something similar to hydroco. Besides prednisone, that drug effected my mind more than any I know. Personality changes. Sleeplessness. I went three nights without sleep in a row - something I've never done in my life. About 85 hours. Didn't seem to matter, because I was working, but it also made me like nuts. Squirrel bait.
So I need to get something else.
Wonder if Medicine Man has any ideas.
I'm also going to be taking something after the surgery, and need to be careful, as a possible 4 weeks of narcotics is a lot. |
