Frank, re Orb's write verify: I don't know if other drives do a verify
read operation. Any disk flaws not found in the factory could be found here and flagged [so that area on the disk would not be used in the future]. If Orb suggests doing that only once, at the beginning,
it amounts to making sure the disk was not damaged between factory and
consumer, before trusting actual customer data to the disk.

I'm just thinking here. Am not familiar with what is normally done.
