jn3, >>>However, I think that a prudent EMC shareholder would at least examine
some of the implications of a DELL/IBM alliance. Tom Meredith has an excellent
record for delivering on his statements; he is not a cheerleader yelling "my team's
going to beat your team"--take him lightly at your own risk.<<<

Fine, but tell me about one single company that has made any money using or reselling IBM hardware, besides IBM. I can't think of any, and I go back too many years to mention competing with IBM. IBM will not sell a transistor to you without padding their own coffers to the max. Do I blame them? Of course not. I think I already have posted some, but here are some companies I can think of that have signed up for some of IBM's marvelous latest technology, and either made no money in the process, or terminated the agreement, or both.

AMD
Cyrix
Hitachi Data Systems
Apple

Who knows, things change, but I think it's more of a strange bedfellows thing between IBM and Dell. Dell can't keep the edge going forever as a company that just builds boxes.
