That seems a bit simplistic - Linux is software - SUN also sells hardware so no prob? Hardware and/or software must have some value proposition to the customer. SUN's right now is in the high end "mainframe" class of server. I see Linux as a threat in that space by adding the industrial strength software to cheap standard PC industry hardware which will more and more move into the high end space - especially when Merced comes out. What was lacking most for the PC industry to threaten SUN was a stable high performance OS. Now you could say SUNW will stay ahead of the curve with its lead in clustering and other high performance areas. But I'm affraid its bread and butter may be squeezed too rapidly before other promising SUN technologies have a chance of becoming larger sources of revenue.
