( BW)(TX-EAGLE-WIRELESS)(EGLW) Eagle Wireless Enters Internet Appliance Market

Business/Technology Editors

HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 15, 1999--

-- Agreement Signed with Inter-con/PC --

Eagle Wireless International, Inc. (OTC BB:EGLW) announced today that it has entered the multi-billion market for Internet set-top devices with the development of a low-profile Internet appliance with a DVD player. Eagle plans to begin shipping its first models in the second quarter of 1999 under a manufacturing and distribution agreement that has been established with Inter-con/PC, Inc., an Eden Prairie, Minnesota-based developer and marketer of set-top computers.
The agreement between Eagle and Inter-con/PC grants Eagle exclusive manufacturing rights for a fixed period of time and would also enable Eagle to share in both distribution and retail sales revenues. Other terms and conditions of the proposed agreement have not yet been disclosed. A final formal agreement is set to be executed by the respective boards no later than April 20, 1999.
The unique features and superior flexibility of Eagle's new Internet access systems are designed not only to strengthen the Company's dominance in its niche wireless segments, but also to firmly establish Eagle and its technology partners as major contenders for market share in the exploding Internet industry.
Unlike other Internet TV console devices that are restricted to a single Internet service provider (ISP), such as those currently connecting to Microsoft's (NASDAQ:MSFT) WebTV(r) service, Eagle's devices are based upon an open platform that can be used in conjunction with most ISPs and is designed to support a wide range of software titles.
"We are very excited to announce our entry into this burgeoning niche market segment which merges television, Internet, DVD, wireless, and satellite consumer media into one family of easy-to-use, low-cost devices," said Dr. H. Dean Cubley, president and chief executive office of Eagle Wireless International.
The set-top boxes expand Eagle's existing Internet product line, which includes Internet enabled personal digital assistants (PDA) distributed under an agreement with Nikko, Japan. The Nikko PDAs are designed to be compatible with the two-way messaging network Eagle installed for Link-Two Communications.
"Rapid expansion of the Internet, coupled with the proliferation of higher bandwidth data transmission in the home and consumer markets, as evidenced by the recently announced alliance between SBC Communications (NYSE:SBC) and America Online (NYSE:AOL), is expected to increase demand for advanced set-top and wireless devices such as those under development at Eagle," Cubley added. "By emerging as a low-cost provider of low-profile Internet appliance access devices with DVD players, we hope to benefit from early market share in this emerging sector."
Eagle Wireless International, Inc. is a leading supplier of telecommunications equipment to the paging, specialized mobile radio (SMR), one and two-way wireless messaging, remote data acquisition, and Internet access markets. The Company is headquartered in Houston, Texas.
