Over the last few weeks, some people on this tread were sort of laughing at the Europeans for being behind in the Internet game. The last time I was in Europe, what really struck me was in Iceland and Germany, all the equipment operated by computers in their processing industries. They were at least five years ahead of Canada. The computer technology is booming in Ireland and unemployment isn't a problem. Another thing I noticed was a tremendous amount of packaging of food in retail stores packaged in modified atmospheric packaging (MAP). Using this MAP packaging eliminates a lot of chemicals when preserving the fresh, chilled shelf-life of food. This was widespread throughout the UK and France. They're at least 10 years ahead of us in this area, so when I asked how come this hasn't caught on in the United States and Canada the answer was we weren't sophisticated enough to handle this technology (i.e. most were too careless controlling the temperature once purchased). I'd say once the Internet picks up in Europe, they'll move ahead of us in no time flat. They'll have the more advanced Internet system, just like China now with the cell phones throughout the country, and were stuck with all the ugly telephone poles and lines.
