I have to hire a new secretary soon, and want to do something to check out her grammar skills. I was thinking of giving her some sentences with errors (and some things that look like errors but aren't) to correct. Does anybody here have any suggestions on sentences which will fairly quickly separate the literates from the illiterates?

A possible example: The affect he sought in his essay was affected by his poor spelling. Nonetheless, the teacher gave him a good grade because she was greatly affected by the affectiveness of his argument.

Is this too esoteric for a secretary in this day and age? Any other suggestions for me?
