This isn't anything we don't know, but news was released today. Here it is:

NEW YORK, March 15 - Omnipoint Corp. expects to gain a strategic partner in the "not too distant future," said Omnipoint President George Schmidt. "In the not too distant future we will have a partner...that will hopefully change most people's outlook on where Omnipoint is and where it is going," Schmidt said at the Merrill Lynch Telecommunications CEO Conference in New York. "We continue to have a handful of people we're talking to," he said.

Omnipoint expects to get written proposals from each potential partner in the next few weeks. The wireless phone company is talking to both domestic and international candidates. Schmidt also said Omnipoint expects to bid prudently in the upcoming wireless license auction. "We will not be bidding imprudently or with resources we do not have, we will be prudent."

Looks like they just MIGHT be linking arms with a partner(s) with deep pockets.
