Jim Kelly:

I've worked long and hard to develop a couple of very amateurish methods for trying to track Dell. (Can't do it in my normal fashion, as there is no way to check out their ongoing sales as we do for other PC situations.) I cannot yet say if these methods are bulletproof, but they seemed to work rather well last quarter, where our "in print" forecast proved deadly accurate. I have to say that on the basis of these methods, we have a very different perspective on Dell than you do. Our view is that Dell is experiencing the slowdown almost as much as its brethren. If this proves accurate, Dell's stock price will be thumped, as the whole darned industry is getting dusted.

Best, Earlie
