There is a whole band of scholars who believe Mary Magdalene was pregnant when Jesus was crucified, and escaped to England and had the baby, and that this lineage is the beginning of European royalty.

Are we sure that this is not a sort of backhanded attempt to justify the excesses of royalty, not unlike the Egyptian insistence that their kings were descended from the sun? Given the time lag between the crucifixion and the emergence of European royalty, and the obvious truth that the various branches of European royalty emerged from totally different genetic stock, it would seem most unlikely.

On the other hand, if it is true, it would mean that all of European royalty is contaminated with (gasp) Jewish blood! Imagine what Emile would make of this!

My own guess (no more than that, obviously) is that Jesus probably remained celibate after emerging as a teacher; what little evidence we have does indicate that he practiced what he preached. On the other hand it must be pointed out that religious leaders throughout the ages have seen more than their share of sexual temptation, and most have succumbed. Of course he didn't emerge as a teacher (I gather, I am far from well read on the subject) until he was in his early 30s, and I think it is more than likely that he did what most people do in that period. I would certainly hope he did. Even a designated saviour deserves a little fun.
