"Yes, indeed. Cisco just purchased a company that offers an IP alternative to PBX systems. It includes a LAN based phone. In fact, according to some article I read a while ago, Cisco has been rolling out those products within the company on a limited basis (probably for testing)." Cisco already has several products (3600 series, as5300 ...) that lets you do this. I read an article that memtioned several companies using Cisco's products to this end (Burlington Coat Factory among others).
